Becoming Accredited in Solution Focused Practice

Over the last few years, the UKASFP have introduced a system whereby practitioners can apply to be accredited in Solution Focused Practice.

This is really exciting for the Solution Focused practitioner community as it will showcase how quickly our skills work in an initial session and how much change can be observed through strict Solution Focused questioning.

Both our Certificate and Diploma courses strive to implement as much skills practice as possible with fellow learners and real clients allowing our learners to develop their skills against the accreditation criteria.

Foundation Course

Introduction to Foundation Course

Solution Focused Therapy enhances existing therapeutic approaches and can be used as an alternative to other therapies. This approach can be used by therapists or anyone involved in helping people to change their behaviours and attitudes, for example helping people lose weight or stopping smoking.

Our training provides an understanding of principles, assumptions and techniques used in SFBT and offers effective strategies and tips for working with clients, even those ‘difficult clients’. This approach has been used with trauma clients, those with Autistic Spectrum Disorder, Substance abusers and many more. You will be able to use your learning immediately when you return to your workplace or even in your personal life.

This unit is specifically designed to deepen and consolidate previous learning by integrating theoretical knowledge with real-world practice, particularly within the framework of Solution Focused Therapy (SFT).

Working with young people in the context of Solution Focused Therapy (SFT) requires a nuanced understanding of the unique power dynamics, communication styles, and influences that shape their lives.

Young people often find the Solution-Focused Therapy (SFT) model particularly engaging and approachable because it highlights their strengths, promotes autonomy, and focuses on future possibilities rather than concentrating on problems or limitations.

A trauma-informed approach within Solution Focused Therapy (SFT) emphasizes creating a safe, respectful, and empowering environment for clients while recognizing the impact of trauma on their lives. This perspective does not mean avoiding conversations about the client’s issues, struggles, or traumatic experiences.

Instead, it carefully shifts the focus toward the client’s capacity to cope, their inherent strengths, and the resources—internal and external—that have helped them persist and move forward.

In Solution Focused Therapy (SFT), note-taking, risk management, boundaries, and ethical considerations play essential roles in maintaining professionalism, client safety, and the integrity of the therapeutic process.

While SFT is strengths-based and future-oriented, these foundational elements ensure that therapy remains safe, ethical, and aligned with best practices. Supervision serves as a critical space for reflection, growth, and learning, fostering both the practitioner’s development and the quality of care provided to clients.

Solution-Focused Therapy (SFT) is a versatile, dynamic, and globally recognized approach that has expanded far beyond its origins in therapeutic contexts. Its adaptability allows it to be applied effectively in a variety of settings, including private practice, coaching, mentoring, consultancy, group work, and family systems.

Across these diverse areas, the core principles of SFT—focusing on strengths, resources, and future possibilities—enable practitioners to facilitate meaningful change in ways that are efficient, collaborative, and empowering.
