Paul Avard

Paul is an advisory teacher with 20+ years’ experience of working with ‘challenging’ children, their parents, teachers and others. This includes extensive experience of working in secure (youth) settings, PRUs and in Learning Support Centres in mainstream schools as well as direct work in mainstream and special schools. He works for a large Learning and Behaviour Support Service in the Midlands, for whom Paul also acts as CPD, training and mentoring leader – he delivers a huge amount of INSET across a variety of areas to education staff and to other agencies as well. Paul delivers training in the FE sector to a number of colleges in the LA, advising on the affective inclusion of challenging students underpinned by sfa. He has used SF approaches for a number of years in his work and he has had the pleasure of learning and training with BRIEF, (amongst others) who awarded Paul their FIRST ever SFA Certificate. He has enhanced CRB clearance to work with children and vulnerable adults. Paul was the Chair and a volunteer counsellor for CHANGE Birmingham Brief Therapy (A charity) in Birmingham. His MA is in the area of inclusive educational practice with a focus on including children with emotional, social, behavioural difficulties in mainstream education. Paul trained originally as a social construct sociologist in the area of ‘deviant’ behaviour.
